Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran (PIP) Makassar/Makassar Merchant Marine Polytechnics (MMP) is a Technical Holding Unit in Education and Training for sea communication led by a Director which is administratively controlled by Center of Education and Training for Sea Communication, Education and Training Agency, Communication Department of Indonesia.
As an integrated academy, this institution is located at Jl. Tentara Pelajar No. 173 Makassar South Sulawesi Province, with 28.428 square meter, about 30 minutes from Hasanuddin Airport, or 5 minutes from Makassar Seaport. B. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND With its status and function, the institution has undergone some development process and changes since 1921, as chronological order names below : 1. 1921 – 1946 : Merchant Marine Rating School 2. 1946 – 1947 : Opleiding Scheep-vaart School Celebes 3. 1947 – 1950 : Middelbare Zeevaart School 4. 1950 – 1964 : Training School of Sea Crossing Sulawesi (Celebes) 5. 1964 – 1972 : Makassar Merchant Marine School 6. 1972 – 1983 : Ujung Pandang Middle Merchant Marine School 7. 1983 – 1995 : Ujung Pandang Merchant Marine Academy D-III / Strata –A Level 8. 1995 – 2000 : Ujung Pandang Merchant Marine Academy D-IV 9. 2000 – now : Makassar Merchant Marine Polytechnics (D-IV programme) |
